celebrating halloween melbourne styles
thanks to everyone who came out on a dreadful-weather-but-very-melbourne night. everyone put in so much effort in dressing up for the party. i can't remember the last time i celebrated halloween, and honestly this might have been my first time. but i had so much fun!
i ended up dressing up as katy perry with the blue hair. however, i kept eating my wig so i took it off pretty fast.
once again, thank you everyone for making it. :)

a how-to that worked
bubzbeauty is one of the most subscribed youtube stars or 'internet sensations'. she would have hundreds of thousands of people watching her video every week. i love how the internet and youtube have expanded how we can connect to each other and share information so openly now.
i know there are a lot of how-to videos out there, but personally i haven't found many that have been particularly helpful. the above clip is an instructional video on how to curl your hair for formal occassions.
i have always had little success with my curler and always blamed the fact i didn't have a ghd, but i discovered this video last week and this technique makes so much difference. so enjoy! i think i'm going to stick with my 8 year old curler thanks.

clay roses
i went to a friend's wedding at the start of october and one of my friends wore this beautiful necklace. it's quite heavy but what a statement it makes.
my heart just melted when i saw her.
love postcards
i love you postcard necklace
$3 AUD from diva
it's got a beautiful eiffel tower on the other side and the more you wear it, the more vintage it looks. like i said on the previous post, i am a sucker for anything that is a postcard. the funny thing is thing i don't really like to send postcards when i'm away...
cool finds: lipstick & stitch
generally i have make up everywhere in my bag. i went to hk in september this year and picked up the cutest pencial case for $35HKD (about $5AUD). i love anything that looks like the old-school envelops with the red and blue stripy border. it even has the fake stamps. i couldn't resist. i'm pretty sure this is a pecil case, but since i only carry a pen around, i thought i'll use it for my make up that is generally dispersed everywhere and making a great big mess in my bag.
it's a great size and has two compartments. the second compartment is my favourite. it has the envelope shape at the back with a velcro heart which opens and shuts. i put my mirror in there.

images from gossip girl in paris
for once, i am really loving what serena is wearing. i get really confused by her style on gossip girl. i have never really been that drawn to gossip girl fashion as i find it really consistent, however i do love that the girls on gossip girl do not look skeletal. i loved the first episode of season 4 when they were in paris. it was such a breath of fresh air.
if life could always be as theatrical as this.
halloween idea #3: you don't make friends with salad but....
you could make friends with fruit....
i was looking around at american apparel yesterday and came across this costume.
original yet simple. i love it. it consists of balloons stuck onto a sweater dress and coloured opaque tights.
it's only a few days till halloween and i have barely prepared for my own costume.

sunday mornings: demitri's feasts

i love sunday mornings (well i like to think it's still morning because we're eating breakfast, but it's really 12:30pm). luckily, i have wonderful girlfriends who are all under the same impression of sunday "mornings". once in a while we head out to the growing number of brunch cafes around melbourne to enjoy each other's company and be food critics for ourselves. last sunday, our target was demitri's feasts.
situated 3 or 4 blocks down from the mcg, it's a nice cafe with a non-impressive shop front. however, you know there is something special when there are people practically eating on the footpath because there is no other space. we got a table in the courtyard and luckily it was the first proper spring day we had in melbourne this year - sunny and over 25 degrees. i couldn't be happier. our seats were made out of old oil cans = genius.
demitri's feasts is a greek inspired cafe. it actually won breakfast of the year in the 2010 cheap eats guide. i had the sage mushrooms with manouri cheese, toasted almonds, and rocket on sourdough. it was lovely and not too salty as i find some mushrooms are. however, i'm not entirely sure if this is the best brunch i ever had this year. the food took quite a while and my friend's eggs weren't as hot as they could be. my highlight: my freshly squeezed orange juice, with pulp. yum
small shoulder

celine shoulder bag
i found a copy in hong kong in the malls at causeway bay, but it was $248HKD (approx. $30AUD) for a plastic bag with really bad lining. that was a little bit too expensive for my liking. i'm still looking for something very similar though.
the bag is elegant and it's great for day and night. it looks extremely useable as well. let me know if you find something similar. i would love to see it.

zara october lookbook 2010
whenever i go overseas, one place i definitely stop at is zara. i think it's come to the point where half my wardrobe is from zara, especially since i started work, and i know what size i am exactly without trying it on. fortunately for australians, the time has come for zara to grace us with their presence. zara will open it's stores in 2011 at westfield's pitt street mall.
what will happen to australia's local retail fashion industry? i'm not sure, it's a scary time for them but they have one year to prepare themselves. the size of the impact will depend on how zara price themselves. unfortunately for the retail industry, judging from the prices overseas, zara is significantly cheaper than shops like country road, witchery and even sportsgirl. fortunately for us, the consumers, we will win in what might be a clothing price war beginning 2011.
my picks from zara: i love zara jackets, you can never go wrong. they are just the perfect cut and gives the perfect amount of warmth. i am loving the camel jackets and the black tapered pants in the october lookbook, but my favourite would be the leather pleated skirt. i hope the stock is still there in december when i go to hong kong and on sale as well. *fingers crossed*
question: how do i get my hair to look like that model?
